This weekend I competed in the 1st annual Motor City Triathlon on Belle Isle, my first Olympic length tri*. I ended up placing better than I thought I would, finishing 35th overall and 4th in my age group in a field of 157. I finished in 2:38:53 after doing a 1.5k swim in the detroit river, 23 miles in 4 loops around the island on my bike, and a 10k run. Again, like in my last triathlon, I did very will in the swim coming in 16th, but my bike leg was a mediocre 88th and my run was a decent 55th. I'm not sure how much time I'm losing by using a road bike instead of a tri-bike, but it seems that everyone that was passing was using a tri-bike.
This race took a lot more out of me than I thought it would. When I started out on the run I was tired and a bit nauseous. I'm not sure if it was the heat, my energy consumption, hydration, or if my body wasn't used to working for that long. Regardless of how I feel right now with sun burn, wetsuit rash, and the fatigue, I'm totally syked for the Grand Haven Olympic Tri in 2 weeks.
The pictures Amy took are up on Flickr and the 3Disciplines has the official race results.
* technically, the bike leg was 1.5 miles shorter than an Olympic length.
