2nd out of the water.

If you've ever thought about doing a triathlon, but the long distances are intimidating, the Coldwater Mini Triathlon is a great way to start. If you can finish a 10k run you can finish this triathlon. The course is set on Coldwater Lake in Southern Michigan and consists of a 300yd swim, 6 mile bike, and a 5k run. The locals are very supportive (I could use a little more cowbell) and there is a much higher ratio of newbies to pros. I made a quick visual scan of the transition area and there weren't more than 10 bikes that had aero bars. The event is now in it's 22nd year and the race is well organized for such a small venue (150 participants). There are a few short comings, like poor bike stands in the transition area and no time chips, but in a way it's part of the novelty of a mini triathlon.

Although I'm proud of my 8th place finish overall and being 1st in my age group, I'm more proud of my sister for coming out and doing her first triathlon. She overcame her self doubt and did great. She even did a little ass kicking as these boys found out the hard way after the swim portion of the race.

As always, Amy took some great pictures, which we've posted to flickr. You can also read Allision's post and take a look at the spiffy pictures Doug took. Once the results are posted, I will link to them here.
